The Deo Family Charitable Foundation, founded in 2020, is dedicated to supporting and uplifting the Indian community in Queensland, Australia.
Serving a vibrant diaspora, which includes approximately 946,000 people of Indian origin and 48,000 individuals of Indo-Fijian and iTaukei heritage, the Foundation promotes cultural appreciation, community cohesion, and the celebration of shared identities.
Since its establishment, the Foundation has hosted various events that honour and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of these communities. Notable initiatives include Girmit Remembrance Day, Fiji Independence Day Celebrations, Fijian Cultural Exhibitions, and the popular radio talk show, Mere Safar Ki Yaadein (“Memories of My Journey”), aired on Radio Brisvaani. Additionally, the Foundation organises engaging community sessions such as Coffee with JD fosters conversation and connection within the community.
In 2024, the Foundation will introduce two new signature events to enrich its annual calendar further: International Women’s Day and the Queensland Indian Bazaar. These events are designed to foster inclusivity, empowerment, and cultural exchange, becoming significant milestones in the Foundation’s ongoing mission.
The Foundation’s efforts play a crucial role in strengthening the collective identity of the Indian and Indo-Fijian communities in Queensland. By showcasing the diversity of Indian culture, food, and traditions, the Foundation contributes to a greater appreciation of cultural richness within the broader multicultural society. Over the years, it has gained recognition at various levels of government and within local communities, with its events attracting diverse audiences and raising awareness of the importance of cultural diversity in Queensland.
Through these programs, the Deo Family Charitable Foundation continues to make a meaningful impact, building bridges, fostering understanding, and promoting the values of unity and inclusivity.
